Happenings 9 Heritage and Canadian Dreams - 2017-08-18

Happenings 9 brings Canadian art alive and weaves stories of the future in recognition of Canada 150. Arts Commons invites you to create, explore, imagine, and play with our artists as they teach you about their craft, and help you create your own.

Happenings 9 celebrates the artistic talents of Terrance Houle (Ledge Gallery), Jake Klein-Waller (Lightbox Studio), JP Marchant, Michael Janke, Susan Clarahan (Broadcast Lab), Hannah Doerksen, Nicole Kelly Westman, Areum Kim, sisters Brittney and Richelle Bear Hat (Window Galleries), and Kerry Maguire (+15 Soundscape). An experimental panel discussion will be held with the exhibiting artists at Happenings.

Joining Arts Commons to celebrate visual art will be Tiffany Wollman who will demonstrate painting with dyes created from plants native to Alberta, and illustrator and designer Mike Hooves will help guests to tell their own stories by creating their own original zine. Happenings 9 also welcomes artists Kevin Jesuino, Sarah van Sloten, and Lovella PeƱaranda, as well as roaming performers Alen Chaudhry, Hailey McLeod and Graham Siddall.

There will also be live performances by Calgary musicians Matt Masters and Amy Nelson and special guests courtesy of Contemporary Calgary.
