Arts Commons Presents BD&P World Music CHE MALAMBO

A blend of drumming and percussive dance, the all-male Argentinian dance company, Che Malambo, builds energy and excitement in an avalanche of high energy sound and movement. Inspired by the South American gaucho tradition, renowned choreographer Gilles Brinas created Che Malambo to share the powerful and passionate art form of Malambo with international audiences. Malambo began in the 17th century as tests of agility, strength, and dexterity among the gaucho. Today this art form includes zapateo, fast-paced footwork inspired by galloping horses, whirling boleadoras, a throwing weapon made of cording and weighted stones, and the drumming of traditional Argentine bombos. Combined, these art forms make for a wildly energetic and powerful live performance you won’t want to miss.
