We at Vern Magazine are obsessed with finding out what products, possessions, and experiences make people tick. That’s why we’re asking some of our favourite people to list the ten things they can’t live without. Debby Rowland and Hugh “Butch” MacPherson, the duo behind Rattlestick, an Alberta-based company that makes the most gorgeous shaving tools and accessories, are the real deal. They love the outdoors and all that life in the Foothills of Alberta brings.
We own two sport-competitive horse and we’ve competed in team cattle penning in the past; would like to get back at it! Butch took reserve champion in the 5 class at Stampede and Deb took third in the 10 class at Stampede.
We love to enjoy morning coffee on our deck and enjoying the beautiful fragrance of spring in the morning. Our go-to is Kicking Horse Kick Ass dark roast coffee. It has kick!
Beer Shaving Soap
Our Rattlestick Raw Retrospectrum Pale Ale Beer Shaving Soap has an amazing fresh citrus scent. We partnered with Cabin Brewery to create this soap
Rattlestick Shaving Set
This shaving set has such a beautiful aesthetic and makes your basic morning routine a ritual. We love making beautiful things for Rattlestick — it’s such a great way to express our creative energy.
We love sleeping in our teepee during the summer months. It has a beautiful bed — there’s nothing like looking up at the night sky!
We really love taking advantage of the outdoors. We ride in the mountains and ski in the winter.
What can we say except, we love Maui Jims!
Family and Our Dogs
We have a large extended family and parents who are 90 and 87. It means so much to spend as much time with everyone that we can. Of course, that includes our dogs and menagerie of animals.
We meditate every day. It keeps us grounded and helps us manage any (actually all!) the stress. We use a great app called Insight Timer — it’s really quite remarkable.
We have a deep love and respect for each other.
